Holding on to Arid Land w/Director Q&A
On the other side of Oregon’s border, a government prohibits cannabis farming and attempts to cut off water to farmers. That summer, a fire ignites, and distrust spills into protest.
Shot in 2024, Holding on to Arid Land is a documentary about Kim, who, after moving to Northern California for a new start and an acre of land, faces down a county government that seems to want to drive him and his community out. Over the last decade, local politicians have made it extremely difficult for Hmong families to live there. Under relentless pressure from authorities, many have stayed to build a community in Tiaj Suab Puam.
The movie is 1 hour and 6 minutes long with a Q&A with the director afterwards.
