Really Me: The Diary of a Soul in Transition

Join us for this exclusive preview screening followed by a Q & A with the filmmakers. "Really Me" gives an intimate glimpse into the life of Megan, a 46-year-old trans femme, as we witness the complex emotions of embracing her authentic self while maintaining her faith and family bonds. This film, shot in Lexington, KY, is a deep dive into the complexities of balancing gender identity, social and familial intricacies, and a life of faith. Through diary entries and candid reflections, this documentary explores the profound emotional landscape of learning to love oneself and having the courage to live truthfully. A portrait of transition as both an ending and a beautiful beginning – grieving what was, while embracing what is. The documentary boldly confronts religious trauma and redemption simultaneously. Raised by a Methodist minister, Megan refuses to cede her faith to those who would use it as a weapon against her. Instead, she develops a radical theology that sees God in the margins, comparing her experience to biblical figures who were considered blasphemous in their time. Her mother's rejection and subsequent religious condemnation serve as catalysts for a deeper spiritual exploration. Megan’s story is not only about transition but also a story of faith. We believe this film’s audience is for those in the church who may have questions about what it means to be transgender, those who may be open to discussion, or wanting to understand but have a hard time relating to or perhaps don’t even know a transgender person. Really Me is a story that inspires authentic conversations to help us understand our friends and neighbors and build community.DocumentaryPT1H13M2026-01-22
